Kevin Finch, a veteran television news director from Indianapolis, will join Washington and Lee’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communications in July as an assistant professor for multi-media news producing. Finch will oversee the weekly Rockbridge Report broadcast and website and teach courses on a variety of other topics.
Finch is a visiting professor at W&L this year and taught a popular fall-term first-year seminar on “Politics, the Press and the Public.” This term, in addition to overseeing Rockbridge Report, he is teaching “The Documentary” and “The Broadcast Magazine.” He will teach a course on documentary filmmaking spring term.
Finch has a B.S. in Radio-TV from Murray State University in Kentucky and an M.A. in public affairs reporting from the University of Illinois. He has been an adjunct instructor at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and taught on several occasions at the University of Indianapolis.
Finch has won numerous awards for his individual work, including a national Edward R. Murrow award for documentary. Similarly, the staffs he led at WRTV-TV and WISH-TV in Indianapolis have received many regional and national honors.
He is a past president of the Indiana Debate Commission and the Indiana Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
