Senior receives Schanck Roberts award to work with Coca-Cola in Dubai

imageQ. Emmanuel Nwakibu, a senior mass communications and European history major from Dallas, has received the Allen Schanck Roberts Scholarship.  He will spend the summer in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, working with Dana Bolden, group director, public affairs and communications, for The Coca-Cola Company’s Bottling Investments Group.

Bolden graduated from Washington and Lee in 1989 with a B.A.  in journalism and mass communications and helped arrange this opportunity.  Nwakibu will write for internal newsletters, provide research for external speeches and develop content for employees to use with various stakeholders.

The Allen Schanck Roberts  Scholarship was established in 1993 by family and friends to honor the memory of Allen Roberts, a member of the Class of 1985.  The grant provides assistance to undergraduates for an internship abroad.  It is given to an individual who embodies qualities of the heart and mind that distinguished Allen Roberts – curiosity, independence of thought and an ability to give voice to the concerns and aspirations of people of diverse backgrounds and stations in life. Before his death in 1993,  Roberts was a reporter for The Journal of Commerce, The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot, the Dayton Daily News and the Beaumont (Texas) Enterprise.
